Thesis Project

Hello all,

This blog is for you guys out there to comment on what I'm doing for my thesis. It will give you an opportunity to say what you think of my work even if you think its rubbish. I will take this advice/comments on board and then be able to do something about it, hopefully resulting in a better scheme at the end of the year.

INTRODUCTION -

This thesis is bridging the gap of young people who are homeless or under privileged by providing a place where they can have independent living, learning and work. This is the reason why I intend to design a Foyer that can be used not only for homeless young people but appreciated by all, creating a building for the future generations.

WHAT IM DOING -

Foyer

WHERE -

Sheepscar Leeds

WHY -

I was involved last year with a similar project known as an Emmaus scheme and saw the problem of homelessness in Yorkshire and what needs doing..........
The site in Sheepscar is perfect for a Foyer as it can link to surrounding colleges
The Foyer will give people aged 16-24 in this area a chance to realise their full potential.
There isn't one in Leeds

About Foyer -

Since launching in 1992, the UK Foyer network has grown to over 130 local Foyers supporting more than 10,000 homeless 16 to 25 year-olds each year, giving them a chance to realise their full potential. They enable young people at risk to escape the "no home - no job - no home" cycle by delivering a holistic service that integrates accommodation with training, job search, personal support and motivation.

Foyer gives a voice to 134 local Foyers across the UK, and to the 10,000 disadvantaged young people with whom they work each year. It provides a forum for sharing best practice and accessing funding, training and a range of support, while the Foyer Accreditation Scheme ensures the quality and consistency of Foyer services.

The Site -
The correct location for a Foyer is vitally important for it to function and work, not just as a building but to work within a community. Foyers mainly are situated within the built up area of a large city or town where accessibility is excellent and a need for such a building is great.
Yorkshire has 8 Foyers already but none in the centre of Leeds. There are a lot of colleges, schools and homeless projects in Leeds but none that offer education and a home for young people. This need has led Leeds being the chosen city for a Foyer.
